Contrary to what many people think, chiropractic is not only for adults. Due to such rapid growth and development during childhood one could argue it’s even more important to get your kids checked and adjusted by a chiropractor.

Children with a properly aligned spine tend to have better posture and have better overall health. Not only does chiropractic keep the spine aligned and moving properly but it also helps reduce nerve interference from spinal subluxations (misalignments). This keeps the entire body functioning at a higher level.
How many times have you seen your child take a tumble or fall? While it’s easy to tell if your child has had a major injury, it’s much harder, if not impossible, to tell when a child has micro trauma. Micro trauma could be the result of tripping or falling, or some other accident. Overtime these micro traumas can lead to misalignments of the spine (or other joints of the body) and increase the chances of long-term health issues. Regular chiropractic visits will detect and correct these subluxations from creating problems and becoming larger ones.
Numerous studies have proven the efficacy of chiropractic care for a variety of childhood illnesses and conditions. Chiropractic has been proven to be effective in treating chronic cases of colic in babies, making a much happier baby.
If you child has ever had an earache or sinus congestion, an adjustment can help drain the fluid from the ears. Chiropractic adjustments have also been shown to reduce or eliminate symptoms of asthma.
One of the most common things we hear after the first adjustment from adults is “I went home and slept like a baby.” Vertebral subluxations can cause discomfort or tension on the nervous system and this can actually disrupt sleep. When a child (or adult) receives a chiropractic adjustment, this reduces tension on the nervous system and restores the body to alignment. This can greatly improve the quality of sleep not only for children, but also people of all ages.
Just because children are young, small or more flexible, this does not excuse them from sustaining injuries. A good way to help prevent injury in children is to get regular chiropractic care which helps to keep the joints and ligaments supple. As children develop and begin to crawl, sit, walk and play chiropractic care can ensure easier and smoother transitions and lead to fewer injuries.
Several studies have shown that children with ADHD/ADD have had positive transformations with chiropractic treatment. You’ll find many cases where chiropractic has even shown to be more beneficial than medication. Many parental surveys have also indicated that their child’s ADHD has improved after being treated with chiropractic.
Over my 20 years in practice and treating thousands of children, I’m still amazed at how quickly children respond to chiropractic care. Whether is pain from a fall or injury, treating them for a specific condition or wellness checkups, children heal and respond much faster than adults. My own children have received regular chiropractic checkups since birth and are incredibly healthy.
